Fund the Country or defund Obama Care

In the news, we have see a lot of events unfold.  But have you noticed the house passed the stop-gap bill that defunds Obamacare?  Have you noticed the coverage on the news networks?  For those who do not know,  there are efforts to do away with the Affordable Care Act and how Republicans are trying to defund it by attaching it to a bill that would keep the government up and running for the next year.  The bill is a bandaid to keep the government running without a budget in place.  FYI: there has not  been a budget in place since President Obama has been in office, they have been sent to the Senate and House, but not voted on.

In a piece in USA Today linked here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/09/20/house-republicans-defund-obamacare-shutdown/2842199/.  It speaks of how the battle between the two parties over the Affordable Care Act now comes into effect; the budget and how we pay for the bills of the country.  Read the Article and you form your own opinion.

  1. Honestly, I think it is ridiculous that we are running our country this way. We seemed to have lost our legislative compass over the past 5 years. Look, this President isn't perfect nor his party but at least they don't threaten to shut down the most powerful government in the world because of a law they don't like.

The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land. It has been ruled Constitutional by the Supreme Court and ratified by the American people on Nov. 6th, 2012. The voters had a clear choice in the last Presidential election. Romney wanted to repeal it and Obama wanted to implement it. The election was pretty decisive. I forgot the exact number but around 70% percent of folks who voted for the President in 2008 did so because they believed we needed healthcare reform. Even if you defund the law for a year, it won't go away. We must stop acting like children; you don't like the law? Work with the opposing party to make it better. It is so frustrating for one party to threaten to shut it all down if they don't get their way, especially when they only control one lever of power in the Federal Government.

  2. I agree with Ernesto, lets not be children about things (in this case laws) that we do not like. Why cause a major government shutdown because we cannot agree? A complete government shutdown over healthcare at that? This makes our country look weak. Has anyone thought about the effects of the government shutdown? It will not affect the people in office, but the average American people. Are our politicians so concerned about getting their way that they are willing to burden the American people? It does not make any sense to me.

  3. I think that the new law is a experiment. Saying that I would argue that we are being foolish thinking that we could do a better job with health care that Canada or Great Brittan. The idea that a Senator would say that we have to pass the bill before we can know what is in it. Playing fast and loose on a topic like our health care.
